I'm a yarn worker, so I'm fairly familiar with fibers, especially the natural fibers I love & prefer.
My husband ordered the Multiplaid from my Gift List and the blanket arrived today (so the 3 star rating is just because first impressions).
Unfortunately, Amazon must have fulfilled the order, because the blanket was folded and put into their basic clear & green plastic bag when the original packaging isn't available; thus, I probably got a returned item (advertised as "new"). I'd think for a $200+ dollar blanket, particularly mohair & wool, it'd have come in one of the nice "gifting" boxes retailers often use, or even a cotton drawstring bag for safe, breathable keeping, or even a standard zippered bedding bag (like my other, cheaper wool blankets come in), not in a folded thin plastic, non-protective bag! Automatic star deduction for that.
The blanket itself is soft & light, but nicely warm & comfy. The weave seems loose, but I think that's because of the mohair, which is quite fluffy-- the air pockets is what helps insulate, so a tight weave would defeat the great properties of mohair & wool, not unlike when I knit or crochet with these fibers. Interestingly, though the weave seems to be "loose," the thickness of the mohair can be felt with the fingers.
The colors are lovely, vivid, but muted so it's not "screaming" or garish. Color transitions are quite nice. Will match any of my rooms!
As is the usual case with natural animal fibers, I expect some loose fibers & flyaways & "linting." Until I see how this holds up, the other temporary star deduction is here.
For now, I'm quite comfortably reclining in cotton flannel pajamas with the Biddy Murphy Mohair Wool Throw Blanket over me. It's keeping the Montana chill away without being weighty. I'm looking forward to testing this blanket more after my upcoming surgery when I will need *lightweight* warmth!
Pics are taken at night with dim lamps.
After more time passes, I'll provide an update (yes, I do update my reviews).
Too early to recommend at this time. But I can tell you that just buying mohair & wool yarn (retail prices) to make a blanket this size would cost about the same as this finished product! That was one of my considerations when I added this Biddy Murphy blanket to my Gift Me list. That, and my Irish heritage. :)
UPDATED TO 4 STARS, 26 Jan 2024, after the arctic weather dropped our temps to well below zero for a couple of weeks & this blanket was quite warm & comfortable.
