The shamrock is probably the best recognized Irish symbol. It is associated with St. Patrick. The Irish shamrock is a plant that grows wild around the country and was used by St. Patrick to explain the concept of the Trinity to the Celts. The three leaves of the shamrock represent three persons in the one body.
